What’s New in Canvas This Fall?
Whether you’ve spent the summer exploring our city or the world, or simply catching your breath between terms, we’ve been working hard to prepare you for the start of the new term. As you start your Fall courses, we want you to be aware of some exciting updates and new features available in Canvas.
This post lists the latest and most impactful Canvas updates in one place, with links to more details for any features that sound interesting to you. Many of these will also be highlighted in upcoming trainings and other communications.
Just a Touch of AI
For those that are ready to start exploring AI in their courses, there are a few features that utilize AI and are already available in Canvas. And if you’re feeling more cautious, I have a blog post coming soon to share how we are approaching any additional features with collaboratively, responsibly, and with plenty of research.
Canvas Smart Search helps students quickly find what they need in your course.
Canvas Discussion Summaries provide an auto-generated summary of long discussion threads for instructors.
Studio AI Assisted Caption Review will soon be enabled to auto-caption videos and flag any spots that may need editing. More details coming soon.
We know the start of the term can be hectic, so take what you need and circle back when you’re ready to explore more. If you need help with any of these features, reach out to the EdTech team or submit a ticket at help.fscj.edu.
Here’s to a great semester!
