Portfolio in Canvas: New and Improved!

Canvas has rolled out a new Portfolios tool designed to make it easier for instructors and students to showcase work, reflect on progress, and curate meaningful artifacts over time. This new tool will replace the classic ePortfolios and the Folio features in Canvas.

From the Account menu, you will find the new Portfolio tool.

What’s Changing

  • Classic ePortfolios are being deprecated and will retire on June, 30th 2026

  • Classic Folio will also be depracated and retired on June, 30th 2026

  • Canvas Portfolios offer a modern interface with better control, flexibility, and usability

  • This update supports a richer learning experience for students and a more seamless workflow for instructors

Why the Change

Classic ePortfolios served us well, but the new tool is more aligned with how faculty and students teach, learn, and reflect today. Canvas Portfolios offer:

  • Drag and drop editing and flexible layouts

  • Multimedia embedding for videos, images, assignments, and reflections

  • Cleaner navigation and styling

  • Sharing and exporting options for students to use beyond Canvas

Please Note: If you are currently using Classic ePortfolios or Folio, you can still access them, but you will not be able to create new ones. Students and instructors are encouraged to use the new Canvas Portfolio tool, especially for long term projects, program assessments, or professional portfolios.
