What's New in WebEx this Month?
WebEx, one of our most used conferencing tools at FSCJ, has been a rapidly developing tool for Canvas and our educational needs. This month WebEx has even more exciting new updates and features. All the way from improvements regarding polling to recording enhancements and enhanced view features. Read below to see all of these new and exciting updates!
What's New in BigBlueButton 2.4?
BigBlueButton is one of FSCJ’s supported conferencing tools in Canvas. We’ve been using the tool since we transitioned over to Canvas, but it is even more important now that so many courses and lectures are being taught online. So, it’s only fitting that with more usage and feedback comes new feature updates. If you’re familiar with the tool and have explored it since the term began, you may have seen a few new options and a brand-new Learning Dashboard within the open-source tool.
VDI and Webex Classrooms for the Tech Win!
Whether your students are in your classroom or in their own living rooms, FSCJ’s IT department has some new solutions to the age-old question of how to keep learners engaged. Using Webex Classrooms, instructors can bring the class directly to their students, making remote learners feel like they’re right there in the room - even for hands-on activities like labs. And Virtual Desktop Infrastructure means students can access and use computer software without having to download or install it on their own machines. Both of these new tech solutions are already here - and even more are on their way. Check out this video for a peek at how you can use these new solutions in your own classroom.
Canvas New Feature Release, January 15
Instructure will perform its monthly release of new features to Canvas on Saturday, January 15, 2022 (can you believe it’s already 2022?). This is a part of the regular process by which Canvas provides new features to all of its users on the third Saturday of every month, without interrupting access to the system. More information about how Canvas releases work can be found here. This month, there are just several changes that were added to save instructors time and add efficiency. Additionally, there are several BigBlueButton updates for you as well!
Online Attendance Feature in Canvas
The term “Online Attendance” could mean so many different things in different classes - does it mean that a student signed in to Canvas, that they attended a conference, or maybe that they submitted an assignment or quiz. Now, instructors can determine exactly what online attendance means in each of their own courses and have the data presented within a New Analytics Dashboard for review.
