Simple Syllabus Tip - Resetting All or Part of your Syllabus

Perhaps you have gone through your syllabus, making all kinds of edits to make it perfect, but then realize, “oh, wait. I’m totally in the wrong class.” Or maybe you made a lot of changes to the pre-populated language for the Academic Honesty component and realize you would like to go back to the original default language that was there before your changes. These are just a few reasons why Simple Syllabus’s Reset option can be a huge timesaver. For this tip, we are going to discuss how to reset all or parts of your syllabus.

How to Reset All or Parts of your Syllabus

Reset option menu

While you are in the editing mode of the syllabus, you will see the Reset option on the left column.

Resetting components options

Once you click Reset, you can click “select all” if you want to reset the entire syllabus. This will NOT affect any of the areas that are automatically populated with information from FSCJ systems (like your course information). Or, if you only need to reset one or a few areas, select the boxes next to the components you would like to reset. You can only choose components that you can edit. Once you have made your selection, click the Next button at the bottom

Selecting Reset

Confirm your selection on the next screen. If the list of components is correct, then click Reset. If you need to modify the list, then click Select Components to return to the component list.

Reset Complete

Once you click Reset, the component(s) will return to their original state (whether blank or with pre-populated text). You will know that the reset is finished once you see “Reset complete” next to the Close button. Choose Close to return to the editing screen.

Important Notes

  • Before selecting the components that you want to reset, you will notice a note explaining that resetting a component's content will remove all content that has been added by you.

  • Keep in mind that resetting a component(s) will return it to its original state. For some components, the original state is a blank box. For other components, the original state had pre-populated text. For example, the Technology Requirements component has general information about technology, but you can edit this section to make it more specific to your class requirements.

  • Resetting a component cannot be undone. Any changes you had will not be available in any selected components that are reset.

  • You can only reset editable components. Those that cannot be reset will have a lock and will not have the option to be chosen.

  • Resetting a component will NOT alter information that is automatically pulling from FSCJ systems, such as Course Information or Course Location Details.

We hope this tip on the Reset option in Simple Syllabus is helpful! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at syllabus@fscj.edu if you have any syllabus questions!
