Copilot Chat: Microsoft’s AI Solution

Here's how FSCJ employees can use it!

There is a lot of excitement around generative AI. While some companies are limiting the use of AI, we want to encourage use it as a tool to be more creative and productive while also protecting our privacy and data.

Why is Microsoft Copilot Chat College-Supported?

Copilot is FSCJ’s supported AI chat solution because it offers the power of GPT-4 with commercial data protection from Microsoft. It generates custom answers using current web data, and you’re able to ask follow up questions to get the answer you need. Plus, every response is accompanied by sources so you know exactly where the information is coming from. Be sure to review the citations for generated responses.

FSCJ’s Microsoft license allows employees use Copilot with their College credentials, which brings commercial-level protection. When you are logged in, you’ll see the green protected icon in the upper right corner. This icon confirms that your personal and College data are protected while you’re using the tool.

Using Copilot prevents leaking confidential company information, whereas using AI tools on the web may expose our private data to the public. Therefore, the guidance to everyone in our organization is to only use Copilot for AI-powered chat if using FSCJ data.

How Do You Access Copilot?

  1. Navigate to copilot.microsoft.com.

  2. Sign in with your College credentials so that you have data protection.

  3. Start using AI for a more efficient and creative workday!

What Can You Do with Copilot Chat?

Wondering how Copilot can help you at work? It can help with the efficient handling of tasks that couldn't be automated before, improved productivity, and more time to focus on high-impact work.

Use Copilot to:

  • Quickly make sense of long web pages, PDFs, and other documents by asking for a summary

What kind of questions can you ask Copilot?

Think of Copilot as a new, more powerful way to search the internet for answers. If you’re trying to learn about a new topic, start your prompt with “Explain this” or “how come.” If you have a lot of different articles with multiple perspectives on a topic but still can’t make a design, try asking, “Compare this option and another option in the form of a table” or “Give me the pros and cons on <topic of interest>.” And if you need more help with making content, you can ask Copilot to “write an email based on bullet points pasted below,” or “Create an image” in a specific style.

Copilot cannot answer questions about your work data, such as your emails, chats, and files, because it does not have access to those items. Copilot in Edge can answer questions about the tab you have open in your browser, including work content, if you have provided permission. After your session is closed or timed out, the content is discarded because Copilot protects company data.
